Beach Day!

For those of you who have been able to withstand my wordiness (ARE there any of you out there?), you deserve a medal.

Friday, June 27th - The Friday prior to this one was our 10 year anniversary. Since we were supposed to be IN San Diego ON our anniversary, I had planned a nice lunch at the swanky, historic Hotel Del Coronado. Even though our anniversary had come and gone, we decided to keep our lunch date anyway because I really wanted to check out the area.

But first, that morning, we took the time to enjoy and explore our own resort. I think the kids were out on the beach by 8 a.m. We hadn't exactly planned to start playing THAT early--our real intent was to go get coffees at the little stand right on the beach--but how can you go down to the beach and then tell your kids that they aren't allowed to touch the sand?! No, that just wouldn't fly--though Dave was NOT yet in a playful mood without his morning coffee! But once the caffeine kicked in, and we got the kids changed into appropriate beach clothes (i.e. not their pajamas), we all had great fun. Even though we were just across the street from Pacific Beach, the bay that our hotel sat on was PERFECT--just the beach we needed. Lots of sand, and the waves were gentle. Oh and by 8 a.m. the hotel staff already had umbrellas, tables, and chairs set up. I could get used to resort living!
Our hotel also had 6 or 7 exotic birds on the grounds. They were fun to watch and listen to. A couple of them could say all sorts of phrases. Now I'm not sure though that I would have wanted to be in one of the rooms right next to them. They were LOUD!

After some fun time on the beach and a promise that we'd later return to the beach, it was time to head to Coronado Island. Thankfully we navigated the streets with ease, crossed the famous Coronado Bridge (don't worry, I had never heard of it before either), and arrived at The Del, as it is called by the locals. Now when making the lunch reservation several weeks before, the gal who I emailed assured me that this particular restaurant was family friendly. Phew! Indeed, it was, and we by no means looked out of place. Now the price of lunch may not have been family friendly, but that's another story...And remember our motto, "When on vacation...!" Expensive or not, it was delicious. And boy, it would have been just a perfect anniversary lunch. Ha! Ha!

The beach was absolutely breathtaking (as was the Victorian-style hotel).

This was looking from the beach back at the hotel.

Following our excursion to The Del, we returned to the Catamaran for naps and more beach time. That evening we took a complimentary cruise around the bay aboard the Bahia Bell.

Fun day.
